For incoming US ambassador to Athens, crisis-hit Greeks were ‘freeloaders’

US president-elect Donald Trump’s pick for the American ambassador to Athens described Greeks during the crippling financial crisis of 2009-2018 as “freeloaders” who needed to be punished in the same way as a dog does when it “pees on the rug.”
