Here are a few numbers that stuck from the recent report on inflation: coffee going up 20.7%, meat 13%, restaurants 7.7% and cake-making products 6.9% – all the basic goods that sustain our way of life, that is. It was reasonable to expect that the Hellenic Statistical Authority’s report would be followed by some kind of official analysis from a responsible authority, from a ministry or a consumer protection organization, from anyone in a position of responsibility seeking to explain why we will be paying so much more for our holiday meals and treats this Christmas and New Year’s.
